The latter is actually also a discrete approach of importance for rock mechanics and rock engineering. In addition, brief introductions to some alternative approaches are also provided, such as percolation theory and Cosserat micromechanics equivalence to particle systems, which often appear hand-in-hand with the DEM in the literature. Fundamentals of the particle mechanics approach using DEM for granular media is also presented.

About the Author
Ricky W. Griffin is Distinguished Professor of Management and the Blocker Chair in Business in Mays Business School at Texas A&M University. After receiving his PhD from the University of Houston in 1978, Dr. Griffin joined the faculty at the University of Missouri for three years before moving to Texas A&M in 1981. His research on task design and dysfunctional work behavior has appeared in the Academy of Management Journal, the Academy of Management Review, Administrative Science Quarterly, the Journal of Management, and other outlets. He also served as Editor of the Journal of Management. Ricky has been Program Chair and Division Chair of the Organizational Behavior Division and Program Chair of the Research Methods Division of the Academy, Program Chair and President of the Southwest Academy of Management, and a member of the Board of the Southern Management Association. He is a fellow of both the Academy of Management and the Southern Management Association. Dr. Griffin has taught organizational behavior, human resource management, international management, and research methods at all levels and has won several teaching awards. He is a frequent speaker to executive audiences and is the author of several widely used textbooks. Dr. Griffin was Director of the Center for Human Resource Management at Texas A&M and just returned to the faculty at Mays after 11 years of full-time appointments as Management Department Head, Executive Associate Dean, and Interim Dean. His current research interests include workplace culture, managerial skills development, and decision making during times of crisis.

New Looking Rental

This book was in ALMOST new condition for a rental which I was very happy about! Only wear was a crease on the cover. But sadly didn't use it much. For the price, I'd say it's worth it to rent vs. buy this book.

Good enough but not a great read.

Rented for CLEP Exam...not a good read and was not as well organized as I would like. It did cover the material, some small terminology differences, but covered it. Not sure but may be a better book out there. Short story is I passed the CLEP after 2 weeks study but this book alone would not be sufficient in my opinion.

About the Author
Robert Atwan is director of The Blue Hills Writing Institute at Curry College and the series editor of the annual Best American Essays, which he founded in 1985. His essays, reviews, and critical articles have appeared in the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, The Atlantic Monthly, Iowa Review, Denver Quarterly, Kenyon Review, River Teeth, and many other publications. For Bedford/St. Martin’s, he has also edited Ten on Ten: Major Essayists on Recurring Themes (1992); Our Times (1998); and Convergences (2009). He has coedited (with Jon Roberts) Left, Right, and Center: Voices from Across the Political Spectrum (1996), and is coeditor with Donald McQuade of The Writer’s Presence (2009).

I ordered this book for my English 103 class. Even though it was a required text, the topics covered in here are very enjoyable to read about and discuss. Everything from religion, rage, sports, and gun control is addressed from many different view point. I would definitely recommend getting this book if you have an interest in current topics of society.

Linda has deftly woven together a highly readable and extremely informative collection of narratives, co-authored with various consultants and designers currently working in the field of Experience Design.

What is Experience Design? It is the effective use of digital multimedia technology and integrating other backgrounds such as education, health sciences, cinema, television, fine art, and architecture, to create immersive environments for specific audiences.

Throughout the chapters we are presented with some highly intuitive cross disciplinary methods of design ranging from the translation of Art and Cinematic production into multimedia "experiences", to the exploration of methods for designing effective content aimed towards those with intellectual disabilities. The chapter on harnessing the power of storytelling in film for design presents some brilliant ideas for keeping users engaged, utilising the theoretical concepts of linear and non linear forms of storytelling.

The artist may find practical solutions on how to entice their audience into consideration of abstract concepts and lateral thinking.
