About the Author
Len Harris is a staff writer and photographer for Midwest Outdoors. He also does freelance work and has appeared in American Angler, Field & Stream, and numerous other magazines and newspapers. His love for trout fishing has been shared on numerous Midwestern television shows. He also does presentations at local schools to spread his love for the outdoors to the youth of the area. Len recently started speaking at nursing homes. He says: "They can't go to the streams anymore so I bring the streams to them."

Well worth it!

I have known Len, or "Bugs" as we called him when we were kids, for as long as I can remember. He was always the big kid I wanted to hang out with but I really didn't know too much about him. I knew the basics. He played basketball for the high school. He was a staple at the town pool. I had also heard he had been in the Army, but I didn't learn much about that along with many of the other details of his life.
Len and his family have always been an important part of my life, but there was always a little something I didn't know about, not that it was hidden, but as the fine Norwegian stock we came from, we don't talk about feelings or things that shaped our lives. We just are and that's enough. Or at least that's what we figured because it's the way our parents were, so it was normal.
I met Len again in this book, "The Stream of Time." This time I got to know him as a boy and learned of the relationships he had with his Dad and many of the people who shaped his life. I always knew he liked to fish, but for years I thought it was just his hobby. Now I know it means so much more to him and all those he has the opportunity to share time on the water with in the "Driftless Area" of Wisconsin. This truly is his church and he worships at the altar of family values every time he prepares to fish.
Reading his book has given me a new perspective on my own experiences with my Dad and the all too few times we have been out fishing or hunting together. I am lucky, my Dad has been around my whole life and I have been able to share so much with him. But now, as both my "old man" and I grow older and having read this book, I find myself wanting to be able to share these experiences with my son as Len has done with his daughter Anna. The memories they have together can never be taken away and with Len's penchant for photography they can be shared vividly with all those who may happen to run into these trout stream anglers.
If you have the chance to pick up this book, I suggest you do so when you have some time on your hands. This collection of memories will have you pausing every few minutes to think back about that last fishing trip with your Dad or the first time you took your kid out to your "secret" fishing hole and before you know it you'll be finding yourself drifting along on your own stream of time.

The Stream of Time-A wonderful reminder of how beautiful life can be

My first contact with the author, Len Harris, came via an outdoor forum, Whereifish.com, where members are invited to their common love of everything "outdoors".
I started looking at Len's pictures and reading the stories he posted, and was "hooked", going to the forum everyday to read what he had posted.
I couldn't have been happier when I learned he was publishing a group of short stories, and became one of the first to read it.
Len is a fishing guide, freelance outdoor author, and photographer, (who can list some very well known people among his clients) and he is
a dedicated family man, and one who pays the knowledge he has learned forward.
He does this by sharing his knowledge of life with grade school children all through the area in which he and his family live,
by giving presentations called "Trout Don't Live In Ugly Places". Sharing incredible photography of the driftless area, and teaching them how
to open their eyes to the incredible beauty of the outdoor world around them. It made me wish my kids were going to school there.
Len's book, "The Stream of Time" is a beautifully written collection of short stories that share his growing up in the driftless area.
It is not just a book about fishing, it is a book about life.
Every story in this small book is a wonderful slice of life, simply and beautifully narrated by the man whose life was shaped by the experiences
he shares with the readers.
Every adult member of my family has read "The Stream of Time", and our children have read, or have had this great book read to them, and during
the reading, we all were reminded of the wonderful times we have had, and will continue to have, by sharing time and space together in
those beautiful areas that make up the world we live in.
"The Stream of Time" is a beautifully written book, a special collection of stories which remind the reader of how important it is to keep one's eyes open
to the world around them, because if you don't, you are cheating yourself out of something that is far to wonderful to miss.

Enjoyable reading.

Enjoyed reading the fishing and hunting memories. The book is a bit of a tribute to the author's parents who did an outstanding job raising Len.
