Hilliard's Legion was organized at Montgomery, 25 June 1862, with one artillery, one cavalry, and three infantry battalions, consisting of about 3,000 men. This book focuses on the activities of the three infantry battalions. On August 4, 1862, the Legion was moved to Knoxville, and it began its first march to Tazwell, 41 miles, on the 14th. The Legion then was assigned first to Brigadier General John Porter McCown's Brigade, Dept. of East Tennessee, in which it served at the siege of Cumberland Gap, then held by Union forces under General G. W. Morgan. The 5th Cavalry Battalion was detached and transferred to the 10th Confederate Cavalry Regiment, 30 Dec 1862. The artillery arm, the Fourth Battalion, was also detached. Part of this battalion, Company "C", was redesignated as an independent artillery battery (Kolb’s Battery of Barbour Light Artillery). During the winter months, Col. Hilliard resigned and was replaced in April, 1863, by Col. Jack Thorington (from the 1st Battalion). Command of the 1st Battalion was assumed by Lt. Col. John H. Holt. About the 10th of April, 1863, the four battalions [the cavalry battalion was detached earlier] came together at Lee's Springs and were placed in Brigadier General Archibald Gracie's Brigade. Upon the dissolution of Hilliard's Legion in November 1863, Co. "A" of the 1st Battalion became Co. "F"; Co. "B" became Co. "H"; Co. "C" became Co. "K"; and Co. "D" became Co. "I", all of the 60th Alabama Infantry; Co. "E", "F", and "G" became Co. "E", "F", and "G", respectively, all of the 23 AL Sharpshooters Battalion. Companies Of The AL Hilliard’s Legion The Legion was originally organized with 5 battalions, 3 of infantry, 1 of artillery, and 1 of Cavalry. The three infantry battalions consisted of 10 companies each. 1st Battalion Co. "A" ("Gilmer Greys," Montgomery County) Co. "B" (Butler County) Co. "C" (Chambers County) Co. D (Lowndes County) Co. The Power of using the mind for Creating the life you really want

The Power visualization of should really be called the power of the mind because the mind influences so much of everything we see, be and do in our universe. The teaching here could be considered that of Hindu but it is so much more.

The author gives the example of truth. Truth is just as it is, what you see is what you get. He shared the story of a lion that was raised in a flock of sheep. When the Lion grew up he called himself a Lion-sheep. Then one day a Lion appears and tells the lion-sheep to look at their same images in the water. Yes, indeed he was a lion and just a lion not a sheep. That is the simple truth.

So with that said, the truth is we all know how to meditate already. It is most popular to believe that we have to sit down in a quiet place and have no distractions and focus on one thing and then we are in a meditation state. This is not true. We all have the ability to meditate all day long and be calm and relaxed in each moment. This is the truth.
We are human and complete already, thus if we have the mind of Buddha then we will be like him, already. We do not become him. That is the truth.

It is interesting to note that the author says that which we see, touch, taste, and smell is in our minds and nothing more. It starts in our minds and that is the truth. If you accept that which is true then the lessons which the author expresses will have a big impact on which you will learn. If you do not open your mind to the true about meditation and visualization then this book will have no meaning for you.

In the end of this wonderful book the author gives wonderful examples of how to mediate in ways to bring your life to an awareness that will fill you will joy each day. I am excited to be able to read these words of encouragement and share them with others. I want to wake up each morning and meditate on that which is true, real and already known.

We are already what we want to become

I highly recommend this little book.

It put a very important piece of the puzzle into place for me. I'll paraphrase. All the information that is necessary to become a tree already exists in the seed. The potential is in the seed. An acorn will never become a stalk of corn because it doesn't have the potential to become that.

We cannot become what we are not. We can only become that which we have the potential for in our own seed. My seed does not necessarily have the same potential as your seed. Meditation can reveal what our own true potential is through inspiration. Don't look for answers or solutions in the outer world where our senses are bombarded from every angle. Go within and find the pure truth that you are looking for. The outer world is a dim reflection of the inner world.

Read it with an open mind, with the intent of learning something that you don't already know. Learn to read between the lines as you read the stories. Do this and it will open a new world of possibilities for you.

Experience the Iliad again for the first time

I have read many transltions of the Iliad and taught selections from it at the university level, but this is something different. With the narrative stripped away and the deaths and similes foregrounded, the poem is much shorter and even starker than the original. Oswald explains the differences in how she treats the two aspects of her version, and there's a concluding essay by Eavan Boland that highlights the technique Oswald uses of repeating the simile sections. I will read this intense and moving version many more times than once.

Brilliant idea done brilliantly

Alice Oswald has written a fabulous "version" of the Iliad as interesting as Christopher Logue's reworkings. This long poem is a series of death scenes, some just one line long, followed by an apt simile, so that every human war death is illustrated by some natural occurence, often involving predatory birds or the ocean. Oswald's frame, an opening listing of names emulating war memorials and a closing series of twelve similes, is inspired. My review at poetsandwar.com goes into more detail, but anyone who enjoys Homer should find this distillation a remarkably moving work. Brilliant imagery.

I don't mean that she is the greatest poet writing

Alice Oswald may be the most exciting poet to appear since the days of Pound and Eliot. I know that's a large claim, but I've been an avid reader of poetry for over 50 years and haven't heard a new voice of this force in all that time. I don't mean that she is the greatest poet writing, as there are great poets who use less rhetorical lines, writers such as W.S. Merwin, Gary Snider, Wendell Berry and Robert Bly. But Oswald has recaptured and re-invented the kind of large, world-shaking and world-shaping poetry that Pound and Eliot brought forth. It's amazing that her work, winning laurels in England, is so little known in the U.S. and I urge lovers of poetry to do something about that. Read her, and spread the word.

Excellent reference and great starter to build your offense

As the review title says, this is a fine reference point to building a Princeton style offense for your basketball team. The book is literally nearly all diagrams of Derek Sheridans offense with every series gone over in great detail. I would recommend supplemental material to truly understand the offense and get more specific drills to compliment it (the book contains some, though not many) I like the DVD "Princeton Offense:Backdoor to Success"

Otherwise it is an excellent buy and should be part of any coaches library.

A fine entry to any highschool basketball playbook

Basketball is a complex game, but with the right approach. I found the book to be somewhat dry and non-simplistic in breakdown. I think the premise of it is good but I would have liked to see more of a breakdown on how to teach this particular offense.

The simplified approach means they have removed some of the various reads and further such things from Pete Carril's Princeton offense. 4th year seniors at Princeton didn't understand the offense totally (as Kit Muller admitted). This is the only simplification which the book has done. It is not presented in a simplistic teaching approach.

Really good study guide....its a question and answer guide...all of the questions include the answer and the reference code,...so that is really good cause you can look it up yourself. A lot of the questions that I saw on this guide were very similar to the actual exam questions.
