Stuff your Stocking with the Christmas Potato!

Charlie is ready for Christmas Vacation and in his opinion, vacation should not include chores! A chance encounter with a different kind of Christmas elf helps him put the season into perspective!

The author did an excellent job of combining both Jesus and Santa into this little Christmas story. She knows what makes boys tick and the illustration of Charlie cleaning the bathtub made me laugh out loud!

This little paperback is the perfect size for a stocking or a gift tie on.

A Delightful Christmas Story

Charlie is looking forward to Christmas vacation and he has big plans. The chores his mom asks him to do are not exactly what he had in mind. However, as Charlie does what is asked of him he begins to realize what is important to him: spending time with family and helping to do his share around the house.

I can't wait to read this story to my children this Christmas season. Paula Schlegel is a talented storyteller and I love the way she incorporates Jesus and Santa in the same story...it doesn't have to be either/or. Finally a story that includes our Christmas traditions along with Jesus' birthday.

The Christmas Potato would be an excellent addition to your Christmas story repertoire at bedtime or as a stocking stuffer gift. I highly recommend you order your copy of The Christmas Potato now before the Christmas season...it will be here before you know it!

Introduction to High Fantasy

Unlike most people, I read this before I even knew what fantasy was. I however was immediately entranced by the alternative use of amethysts and obsidian and even now, looking back, I really do appreciate the ingenious creation of dragons and such. I really, really, really liked the book. I can't remember any of the characters names, but twelve years later (and I don't read it that often--last was 2005?) I can still outline the entire plot and explain how the characters were interconnected. How many books can you say that about?

Lawrence Watt-Evans did a wonderful thing when he wrote the Obsidian Chronicles, and Dragon Weather is an excellent introduction to fantasy.

Dragons Abound

Arlian lives in a small village called Smoking Mountain. Everything is fine until one day, "dragon weather" comes. His grandfather tells him that only when it is this hot and the humidity is this oppressive can dragons come raiding villages. The stories his grandfather heard when he was a young child about dragon weather are true. A dragon comes to the village of Smoking Mountain, and everyone but eleven-year-old Arlian is killed. After he sees his own grandfather die protecting him, Arlian is determined that he must avenge his village and bring justice to those who ordered the dragons to attack his village.

As soon as I picked up this book, I couldn't put it down. Arlian is loveable through every step of his journey from boy to man. Sometimes he is dark and forbidding in his obsession with justice, but every time he acts in anger, his rage is justified. Everything in this book makes sense and falls into place perfectly. Watt-Evens' attention to detail and incredible descriptions makes it feel like the reader is in the story. This Science Fiction Chronicle's Best Fantasy Novel of the Year is an amazing read.

Excellent & Comprehensive Review of Oceanic Art.

An excellent study of Oceanic Art with really nice presentation, good quality binding and paper, well photographed items, abundant historical and field photos, and well-researched and readable text. The main parts of the book deal with : Art In Early Oceania; The Settlement of Western Oceania; Voyaging and Monumental Architecture; Art, Trade & Exchange in New Guinea; Art, War & Pacification in New Guinea; Cosmologies and Collections in New Guinea; Island Melanesuia 1700-1940; Eastern and Northern Oceania 1700-1940; War & Visual Culture; Decolonization, independence and cultural revival; Art In Oceania Now 1989-2012.

Here is a book that takes Oceanic Art seriously, but without taking itself too seriously.....and where the art is put into historical and cultural context without sacrificing how visually stunning Oceanic tribal art is. The artwork is well proportioned, often full or half-page, and includes the usual masks and figures, but also fabrics and drums and shields, and costumes and many fascinating architectural elements. A minor drawback is that some of the items featured are a little too familiar from other publications, but overall this is a marvelous book, and highly recommended. I bought my copy for under 50 bucks, which is a great value for a large, ambitious and well executed book such as this.

Gregory lacked the administrative ability of his brother Basil, or the contemporary influence of Gregory of Nazianzus, but was an erudite theologian who made significant contributions to the doctrine of the Trinity and the Nicene creed. Gregory's philosophical writings were influenced by Origen, and he is generally considered to have believed in universal salvation. Since the mid-twentieth century, there has been a significant increase in interest in Gregory's works from the academic community, which has resulted in challenges to many traditional interpretations of his theology. microhydro - Clean Power from Water

Not the best book I've read about Microhydro. I read one published in the 70's and it did a much better job explaining how electricity works and the problems associated with making power from water. Through out microhydro he make references to other parts of the book, it was kind of like teasers when you are watching bad tv, "in just a moment we'll find out what's in Al Capone's secret vault". It was like he didn't have enough to say so he kept stretching it out and repeating things he already said. He also kept talking about the case studies at the end of the book. They were not too informative. All and all I just wanted to let people know I was disappointed. This was supposed to be The Book on microhydro and it just didn't measure up . I more recently read a catch all book for wind, water and solar energy and it did a great job. I would recommend "[[ASIN: Power with Nature Second Edition: Alternative Energy Solutions for Homeowners Updated]]"

Pretty good, too steep for newbies, too general for implementers.

I have a passing interest in small scale microhydro.I was an electrician and electronics tech in a previous life.

Where this book goes wrong is probably its strong point at the same time. It is written for those that have some training in electronics and electrical engineering. An average Joe would probably not get all of the references in this book, which is ok. Electricity, especially that which could be generated by one of these plants can be fatal. Mucking around with that is just dangerous. I think as a person that has training in this field, this book is still a bit inadequate. Because it attempts to straddle the line of easy to understand and at the same time be technical to the folks that need it, it never quite sits well with the general reader.

Overall its still a pretty good book on the subject, probably not a primer but not useless either.
